Lack of water in the village of Odisha.
Due to increasing heat, the demand for water is increasing rapidly. But Badbarli, a tribal village in Papadahandi block of Nabrangpur district of Odisha, is currently struggling with severe water crisis. There has been such a condition of water here that not only has it become difficult for people to live, but the marriage of the youth is also postponing and many women are leaving their in -laws and returning to their maternal home. More than 200 families in the village are worried about daily drinking water. All the hand pumps of the village have deteriorated and there is no pond or well nearby. People have to walk from 1.5 to 2 kilometers daily to bring water from the springs or go to other villages.
People refusing to marry daughters
Ravindra Nag, a resident of the village, said, “Water has become the biggest problem in our village. People are refusing to marry their daughters here. There are about 80 youths in the village till date. Many women left in -laws a few days after the wedding because they were not ready to face so much trouble.”
Villagers pleading with district administration and public representatives
The villagers say that they pleaded with the district administration and public representatives several times, but so far no solution has been found. The village has been officially declared ‘Water Scarcity Red Zone’. A mega drinking water project was planned for Badabarli village, which was to provide water to 50 villages in Papadahandi block. But the scheme is stuck due to non -permission from the National Highway Department to lay a pipeline.
The villagers warned of movement
RWSS superintending engineer Prateek Kumar Raut said, “We have found a red zone on the basis of hydrological map. Earlier there were 4 tubewells in the village, out of which 3 have now been damaged. Our effort is to provide water to 50 villages of Papadhadi block by June.” Now the people of the village are saying that if no concrete steps are taken soon, they will start a strong movement.
This condition of Badabarli village is not just a village, but it is a big question. When the road and electricity can reach the village, then why not clean drinking water? The government should focus on this serious issue at the earliest, otherwise this crisis will be deepened.
