Dehradun: Matholi village in Uttarkashi district has become an example of rural tourism as well as women empowerment where women are getting tourists to the tourists as well as ‘Village Tour’ (village tour) through ‘Home Stay’. The credit for converting Matholi village, which is known as ‘Bari Village’ (village of daughter-in-law) located in Chinyalisaur block, goes to the village youth Pradeep Panwar, who had to return to his village during Kovid-19 epidemic. Panwar, who experiences working in the field of tourism, converted his Chhani (Gaushala) near the village into a ‘home stay’ and opened it to the tourists. Along with this, he also trained the women of the village for ‘Home Stay’ operations (hospitality hospitality, food, tracking, village tour).

5331 ‘Home Stay’ registered in tourism department

Pradeep Panwar said that on March 8, 2022, he started his ‘Homestay’, after which about one thousand tourists have come there so far. He told that about 20 women also got work from time to time. Pradeep Panwar said that he has now registered his ‘Home Stay’ in the tourist department, so that he can also take online booking. Tourism officials said that 5331 ‘Home Stay’ are currently registered with the department, most of which are being operated by women in rural areas.

Government gives subsidy from 25% to 33%

The state government provides 25 percent subsidy in the plains and 33 percent in the mountainous region at the cost of ‘home stay’ under Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay ‘Home Stay’ scheme. In this regard, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, ‘Matholi village is an example of rural tourism as well as women empowerment. If a family of the village comes forward to operate ‘Homestay’, then they will be supported in the registration process besides giving them the benefit of all the schemes of the tourism department.
